Alma de mi Tierra

COOKING CLASSES

Welcome to Alma de mi Tierra (Soul of my Land)

Nora invites you to experience the authentic dishes of Oaxaca, prepared in her kitchen using time-honored recipes passed down from her grandmother as well as some new recipes that Nora herself has created.

Nora´s hands-on classes include recipes that she knows can be easily reproduced outside of Oaxaca, with commonly available substitutes for some of our local ingredients. Her classes are taught in either Spanish or English, and printed recipes are always provided.

Classes start at 9:30 AM and end around 3:00 PM, depending on the main course and the number of students. Nora´s classes are limited to a maximum of 10 students in order to keep the class on a more personal level.

A typical class will begin with a trip to the local market, after which the group will return to Nora’s kitchen to prepare a salsa, an appetizer, soup, a main dish, a fresh fruit-flavored drink and a dessert. The meal, along with a special rare mezcal to sample, is then served and enjoyed by the group at her main dinner table. This is a full four-course dinner with you being waited on, not a small buffet or tasting as so many others offer. Classes are $70.00 USD per person or $85.00 USD per person for a private class with 3 or fewer people. Additional dinner guests may be invited by class participants for $25.00 USD per person.

Nora is happy to give classes for vegetarians, with sufficient notice. Please note that in order to maintain the unique flavors of the traditional Oaxacan kitchen, not all of our recipes are available for vegetarian classes. A minimum of 48 hrs is needed to reserve a class. Please call or email for more details.

Classes can be reserved by phone, email or fax, and are paid for in advance. Once your card has been charged, you will receive your confirmation letter via email. We accept Visa, Master Card and PayPal, as well as Mexican pesos.
