Alma de Mi Tierra

Cooking classes and cultural tour package in Oaxaca, Mexico.

We offer an 8 day 7 night cooking class and cultural tour package for your enjoyment as well as per day cooking classes and tours in and around the colonial city of Oaxaca, Mexico.
Nora Valencia joyfully opens her kitchen and her heart to share with you her love for the regional dishes of Oaxaca and the culture of her homeland. As your host and teacher, Nora skillfully guides you through each step of the way, you will experience true Oaxacan cooking in its natural setting: "From the Market to the Dinner Table".
Nora learned the techniques of traditional Oaxacan cooking from her mother Conchita and her late grandmother Ofelia. Together, they have earned a reputation for the fine breakfast they prepared every morning at La Casa de Mis Recuerdos Bed and Breakfast. Their recipes can be found in regional cookbooks and are enjoyed in restaurants around the city.

Nora is a native Oaxaquena who is always thrilled to share her culture. Her love of the heritage of her people and her extensive knowledge of the areas surrounding Oaxaca will bring a unique aspect to your Oaxacan experience. Whether it be choosing the right ingredient for a specific dish being prepared that day or explaining how the artist creates their craft, Nora will transform what usually is a rushed commercial tour into an educational experience. Her daily tours to such places as Ocotlan, Teotitlan del Valle and Etla start around 9:30 and last to 4 or 5. For groups of 4 or more a climate controlled late-model van will comfortably take you to all of days destinations in style.

These are the day activities that we offer at Alma de mi Tierra.

"I have only positive things to say about my recent vacation in Oaxaca, Mexico......."

"......A highlight of the casa was visiting with Nora.... The family owns four facilities and Nora is charming and vivacious. She speaks excellent English and she will help her guests with any problem, big or small. She arranges taxis and tours for you, even runs some tours herself if you want. She is, also, one of the top cooks in Oaxaca. People from all over take her cooking classes. My wife and I did so and the classes begin with a walk to the market where Nora buys that day's supplies and introduces you to all the bounty of the region....." Steven L. Smith, Bellingham WA
